Awww.....and a thank you freebie!

I've been awarded the Liebster Blog Award from Shannon at Tickled to Teach. Thanks so much!

What it's all about...
The Liebster Award is awarded to blogs with less than 200 followers. The award is passed along from blogger to blogger and highlights up and coming blogs. Liebe is the word for love in Germany, which is where the award originated.

Guidelines to accepting the award:
Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog. Link back to the blogger who presented the award to you. Copy and paste the blog award on your blog. Present the Liebster Blog Award to blogs of 200 followers or less who you feel deserve to be noticed. Let them know they have been chosen by leaving a comment at their blog.

And....as a thank you, here's a smallish thing or two!  Happy teaching and blessings to you!

Leap on over.......!

Morning Work and so much more!

Last week was a whirlwind, blast! We squeezed A LOT into 4 little days! In the spirit of 'The Lorax' we're working to conserve paper and use our writing journals more. We came up with some very interesting stories as the result of this morning work assignment.

Later in the day, we viewed a little clip on dental health and read The Tooth Book by Edward Miller. After discussing what we learned, we cut and used lots of glue to show the parts of a tooth.  If any of those teeth had cavities, there was enough glue flowing to fill them ALL!  We got a little carried away with the label lines, but all walked away with a clear understanding of tooth care do's and don'ts, lol! :-)  This idea was a total steal from Pinterest! How did I ever survive PrePinterest?  Click the pic to grab the labels we used.

This week promises to bring just as much excitement with it too.  In celebration of leap year, there is a HUGE sale planned for Wednesday, February 29th over at Teachers Pay Teachers. Make your wishlist and shop the day away for up to 28% off of select products.  As soon as I sign off here, I'll be uploading my newest creation.  It's a first in a collection  of place value activities.  Wednesday would be a great day to snag one of everything in my little shop!  Be sure to grab yours!  Have a great week and blessings to you!

Crazy about Compounds!

We read Little Rabbit's Tale by Wong Herbert Yee this week. The main character is just the cutest little rabbit (with a really bad case of paranoia)! We used it as an introduction to compound words and had loads of fun with them throughout the day. Grab the set of words we used for a game of "Find Your Partner" here. I tried to make sure the words we used would make for good illustrations, gave each kiddo one of the "small" words, then they had to silently walk around the room and find their partner without talking! I thought the not talking part would be the most challenging, but they painted on smiles, turned on those thinkers and went on their word hunt eagerly.  They really enjoyed the challenge! Once everyone found their partner, each set of kiddos got to stand and present their new "big word" and we posted them on the whiteboard for reference.  THEN, we extended our game into TWO different writing activities pictured below.

To keep each kiddo's work original, they each  had to choose a different word AND you better believe we ended up with a very funny set of stories!  Click the pic above to snag a copy of the writing paper.  Today was a blast.....tomorrow, dental health!  It's funny how we look forward to 4 day weeks but work like crazy to squeeze in five days worth of learning! Happy Friday, everyone!

Goal ACHIEVED!

My goal for this week was to get my own little TpT shop up and running.....and I DID!  It feels so good to have that checkmarked as DONE! I have to be one of the luckiest people on the planet for having the opportunity to work with some of the most supportive and inspiring people a person could ever meet!  Admittedly, I'm not the most technologically savvy person, so this process was a very easy, comfortable one to complete.  The best ideas are those that are shared.  On that note, here's a preview for the first item loaded into my shop.  It's the first of 8 fun math and literacy activities inspired by The Little Old Lady That Swallowed a Clover.  It's a great little book that will have your firsties reading and rhyming the day away!

On another note, I've also discovered that there is an iPhone app for blogger-Oh, yeah!  Now, why didn't I think there would be one (so silly of me:-)?  This journey has been such fun to begin, I can only imagine it being sweetened by having access to communicating with newfound coworkers from the convenience of my pocket.  Already, I've shared in conversations with many of the "unseen teachers next door" that have inspired me to keep my classroom doors open {really} wide!

In the words of  Maya Angelou~When you learn, teach.  When you get, give.  Have a great week everyone!
