300, AWARDS, & FREEBIE FUN

OMG, I stepped away from the computer {kinda} for a couple of days and my little blog was set on fire! It was just a little over a week ago that I celebrated having reached 200 fab followers…….and now that little number has grown to over 300!  Welcome!  Thanks for joining in the fun! Sit back! Relax…can I get you anything? Lol…
It’s really nice to have you! I hadn’t imagined reaching 300 so quickly, but am thrilled to have done so! I appreciate each and every one of you! Well, the goodies are going to be a little simpler this Giveaway go around, but just as heartfelt.

binder freebie labels
If you click the pic above you can grab the labels that I will be using this year to organize my teacher binders. I ran across a sweet article on Teachhub.com that suggested teachers organize themselves using a simple system that includes 3 binders.  You can read it by clicking here.  These are the 3 little cuties that will be traveling the halls to meetings with me this year.

Avery makes full page labels for your printer that these could easily be printed on and stuck to the front of a binder or if the ones with clear front pockets appeal to you….just print them out and slide them in. You’ll find labels for 3 binders:  Teacher Info, Student Info and Substitute Info with spine labels as well.
Now…..I’ve received a couple of compliments and awards that I must say thank you for.  You can click the awards link to get a peek at them! I apologize if I missed anyone…please email me if I do and I will most certainly correct the oversight.
From Kimberlee at TwoFulbrightHugs, Amy Grout at Adventures in Teaching and Tori at Tori’s Teacher Tips I was awarded The Versatile Blogger award that I had not received before.
I was complimented with The Lovely Blog Award by Tarita at Papers, Pencils and Books, Oh My!

  3. At the beginning of each year I ALWAYS give my students a "POP QUIZ"! They think it's fun because they are in FIRST Grade and think of "POP QUIZZES" as a "big kid" thing. It's not your normal pop quiz though....

It's a "DO YOU KNOW YOUR NEW TEACHER?" quiz.

I have a list of 10 or 15 things about me (some true, some false).

I read each statement on the page to them, and they have to decide if it's true or false. It's a great way for the new class to learn a bit about me, and it's always FULL OF LAUGHS! :)

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to win your giveaway!!! Congrats on 300~

  7. Congrats on 300 and growing!! And thanks for the Binder Labels!

I haven't really thought too much about the beginning of the year (better get on that), but I will be doing some Pete the Cat and Chrysanthemum activities.

  8. I've always started the year off with The Gingerbread Man. We read the story, and then we try and catch the gingerbread man as he leaves us clues all throughout the school. Haven't decided what to do this year because I'm moving to 1st grade and the gingerbread man is for Kindergartners.

  12. I like to read the Very Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day! and use it to talk about how we don't want days like that at school so what can we do to have a good one? We make a list and essentially create our class rules together.

  13. After I read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes, the students usually decorate their names which are written on a 12x18 construction paper with buttons, sequins, stickers, etc. Congratulations!

  15. Wow, congrats on the 3-0-0! Seeing as how I've only taught one year, I can't say "usually", when referring to how I start my year:) I'm looking forward to starting this year with Pete the Cat. I fell in love with him last year, and I think his books can easily be integrated to LOTS of beginning of year skills! Hope I win, so I can add to my "tool box" other great things to start the year with Firsties:)

  16. Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog, Lanier's Lions! I absolutely love fact #2 about you!!! There are 8 of us on my K team and that's our on going joke! We are constantly squirreling all day! I'm trying to remember where that came from...mind is blank! I look forward to reading many more posts on your blog!

Squirrel...reason I was commenting was to answer your question about the beginning of the year. Over the past 9 years I've stared with lots of different books/activities...The Kissing Hand Chester chase around school; Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom letter hunt; The Gingerbread Man chase but this year I'm getting on the band wagon and doing PETE THE CAT!!!

  17. Congrats on 300! Glad to hear your kiddos are well - I can relate, my youngest broke his arm while we were on vacation in California - only one of my kids to ever break a bone and he had to do it on vacation hundreds of miles from home, the night before a big family wedding! Hopefully your day wasn't that adventurous! At least it happened during the summer time!

Oh, and one thing I ALWAYS do during the beginning of the school year is have a scavenger hunt (or 2!). I usually have a small classroom scavenger hunt for our Meet the Teacher night and then I do another one on one of our first days of school so the kiddos can get to know where everything is and who works in our building.

  18. Holy cow! It's finally letting me write! I always do a phonics lesson with my last name so the kids won't be calling me the wrong thing all year! Also Chrysanthemum and any name activity tie into that as well...not to mention it's one of my faves! :-)

  19. I start the year by doing a "name art" project where everyone decorates their name with different materials. I also read "Jessica" by Kevin Henkes.
